Polar Education & Leadership
Learning from science, explorationand real-world field experience
The polar regions are a unique classroom for understanding science, climate change and human decision-making. We design talks, workshops and learning experiences that combine first-hand expedition insight with accessible scientific explanation, sparking curiosity and critical thinking and connecting seemingly distant environmental change to everyday life.

Programmes & deliverables
01
Field education
Glacier observations and field-based learning within an appropriate safety framework. Participants work in the field alongside researchers, learning about glacial landforms, environmental change and field safety, and taking classroom knowledge into the real world.
Example | Guiding students to measure the glacier front, observe moraines and meltwater channels, and compare them with historical photos to see how the glacier has changed.

02
Workshop
Scientific methods, polar environments and climate understanding. Interactive content built from real research projects and expeditions, adjusted in depth to participants' age and background.
Example | Demonstrating glacier flow with ice models, letting students analyse real GNSS field data, or discussing the impact of climate change on polar ecosystems.

03
Leadership
Preparation, collaboration and decisions under uncertainty. Drawing on real polar expeditions to explore preparation, teamwork, resilience, and when to push on or turn back.
Example | Group discussion of real expedition decisions — push on or turn back when the weather worsens? — to build communication and risk-judgement skills.

04
Deliverables
A scoped learning programme, session outline and agreed teaching materials. Depending on the project, this can include pre-trip briefings, safety guidance, field handbooks and follow-up activities.
Example | Workshop slides, student worksheets, field route maps and safety briefings, plus a post-programme evaluation survey.
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
Switzerland Educational Expeditions
Switzerland’s alpine landscapes provide an engaging setting for exploring glaciers, mountain environments and climate science beyond the classroom.
FAQ
Can a programme include fieldwork?
Yes. Depending on programme goals and learning needs, we can integrate field trips, on-site observation and interactive learning so participants deepen their knowledge in real natural settings. All field activities are planned around participants' abilities, local conditions and safety requirements.
